Our Sustainable Approach
Here's a snapshot of where we're currently at as a company:
Westman Atelier is working toward refillable packaging, starting with our circular compacts, and will be steadily converting over as many of our products as possible through 2021. In the meantime, our product empties can be dropped at Credo boutiques nationwide for recycling in partnership with Terracycle.
All of our secondary packaging is recyclable. We use Invercote board for our folding cartons, which has one of the lowest carbon footprints of any paperboard available; our folding carton supplier is FSC certified and has the French Certification of Imprim’vert, which is committed to reducing waste.
Our e-commerce boxes, brush boxes, and shopping bags are made from recycled content; our tissue paper is made of 60-70% post-industrial fiber and 10% post-consumer fibers.
We work only with labs that are proactive and forward-thinking in their approach to sustainability. This includes measures to meaningfully lower water consumption each year, obtaining energy from renewable sources, and initiating long-term traceability of recovered waste.
We employ a carbon offset program that calculates the carbon footprint of our Westman Atelier website orders and makes a corresponding donation to the Jari Pará REDD+ Avoided Unplanned Deforestation project in the Amazon rainforest.
Our makeup brushes are handmade by artisans in Japan using sustainable FSC-certified birchwood handles and cruelty-free synthetic bristles.
We are cruelty-free—we never test our products on animals.
We believe in repurposing our luxury packaging whenever possible. A few of our favorite team strategies: Turn your empty Eye Pod vessel into a travel-size jewelry case or on-the-go pillbox. Convert the 'click-and-go' caps of our stick formulas into the world's chicest office and kitchen magnets. Scrape single-use doses of makeup into our slim mirrored compacts or pods for a hands-free evening out.
