In the first 24 years that La DoubleJ founder J.J. Martin lived in Milan, she visited Sardinia just a handful of times. But over the past year, the California native has become officially obsessed. “I’ve taken trips there as often as possible and I’m spending 18 days there in August,” she says. “Most people go for the party scene on the beaches or fancy yacht-hopping, but I'm fixated on the sacred and ancient archaeological sites that feel so energetically potent.” Think serene beaches, great small shops, and galleries in tucked-away villages, along with plenty of yoga.
We’re here for all of it. But managing to stay chic and effortless at the height of summer is an art. Martin embraces the challenge with full gusto—and plenty of color, naturally. “For all of you minimalists out there, there’s no excuse. Now is the time to break out a print or a bold hue.”
She approaches packing as a week-long event, laying out everything with her assistant Miranda, “a packing and styling whiz,” then thoughtfully editing her choices. Must-haves include La DoubleJ’s signature silk and poplin pieces including shawls, ponchos, and printed scarves (which conveniently fold down to handkerchief size), plenty of dresses (“one-and-done!”), and swimsuits that double as ready-to-wear.
In her beauty bag, she focuses on the absolute essentials: high SPF, a bit of foundation, good skincare, lip gloss with some shimmer, a touch of sun-kissed color, and her favorite energy-aligned scents. “I don’t really wear much makeup in my daily life,” says Martin. “When I do wear it, Westman Atelier's makeup and foundations are amazing.
