Gracie Abrams is on the cusp of mega stardom. The rising 22-year-old singer-songwriter, who counts Taylor Swift, Rosalía, and Phoebe Bridgers as fans, has captured the spirit—and the heartbreaks—of her generation with intimate, confessional-style lyrics set to sultry pop melodies. And yet, with 800,000 loyal Instagram followers and a sold-out run of shows across the country, Abrams has a way of making every word feel like it's sung just for you.

On a breezy afternoon in the West side of Los Angeles, Abrams is savoring a rare afternoon at home during a break from her whirlwind tour in support of her new album, This Is What It Feels Like Born and raised in the City of Angels, she counts its iconic female folk musicians as profoundly influential to her music. Favorite albums from her sprawling vinyl collection run the gamut from Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours to Joni Mitchell’s Blue. “That says ‘River’ and it’s in Joni’s handwriting,” says Abrams, gesturing to a small tattoo in script on the inside of her forearm—a tribute to Mitchell's heart-wrenching 1971 piano ballad of love and loss.

With her ethereal bare skin, transfixing gaze, and waist-skimming dark hair, Abrams' own good looks feel sprung from the ethos of Laurel Canyon. “I’m really into boyish brows,” she says as makeup artist Sophie Haig smudges a cool chocolate shadow (in Frappé) along her lash lines and blends a tawny nude cream blush onto her cheekbones. “If I’ve put on foundation, I take a Q-tip and try to uncover my freckles a bit just because I appreciate them now."

Here, she gets ready for a night out in Los Angeles, with help from an ivory silk Céline blazer and a quick swipe of the Les Nudes palette on lips. Watch the debut episode of Westman Muses now—and shop her full look here.
